Lateefa Spiker
Youth Nature Mentor
"My childhood experiences of living in communities in the different landscapes of Andalucia and New Mexico have given me insight into the dynamic of community and an awareness and curiosity about the diversity and richness of the natural world.
I was introduced to the geometry of nature while studying at the Prince’s School in London, which opened up a new understanding of how connected we are on all levels. After attending art school, I have spent over a decade as an artist and designer, also involved in running traditional craft workshops in the UK and abroad.
Working with and learning from the Ahousaht First Nation community on a small forested island off the coast of Vancouver Island rekindled a keen interest in indigenous connection to the natural world, and also a personal yearning for connection to community and place.
I’ve gone on to train for L3 Forest School, am now working at the forest school at Forest Row Primary and with the outdoor education team at Michael Hall. I’m a keen potter, love to sing and am fascinated by hedgerow medicine and the healing power of reconnecting to ourselves, nature and community."
