Ross Torode
Outdoor Guernsey - Adventure Instructor
BA (Hons) Primary Education with QTS (5-11yrs)
Founder of Bushcraft on Adventure Days with Outdoor Guernsey
Born and raised on the island of Guernsey, the outdoors and nature has always been a huge part of Ross’s life. A keen rock climber and slackliner he first developed his passion for teaching through working as an outdoor adventure instructor, leading groups of all ages on a wide range of activities from coasteering to team-building or kayaking.
He went on to study Primary Education at Brighton University for three years. Intrigued by how the outdoors could be incorporated into education, he requested a placement at a Froebel School which ran weekly Forest School sessions where he found great interest in the learner centred approach.
Now a Primary School Teacher Ross has taught part-time in Brighton mainstream schools then went on to travel and volunteer in woodworking and organic farming on a small holding in New Zealand. After returning home to Guernsey he set up and led summertime Bushcraft holiday groups.
“It fuels me with such passion to see how elements as simple as experienced questioning and nature can bring such rich, memorable learning experiences; and enable people to blossom into the flower of their true potential. From social skills, to emotional development and physical health to intellectual understanding: all of which is applicable in daily living and all of which is driven by curiosity!”
