Sarah McLaughlin-Marlow
Sarah has been working as a forest school leader with various projects and in schools for over 5 years. Initially motivated by a strong desire to protect the natural world through education and initiating nature connection in children, she now deeply values the mutual benefits that time in nature provides for childhood and personal development. She lives in East Chiltington where she runs forest school activities in the local woods. In 2015 she set up Forest Friends with Rivkah Cummerson, a Monday morning parent and child session for ages 1-5 and last year started an after school club called Earth Guardians for ages 5-8. Sarah and Rivkah also run Wild Days throughout the year for older children. She has recently completed the 2 year adult course run by Vicky, Anna and Daniel and intends to continue working on the 8 shield teachings from the course. Throughout the 2 years she enjoyed deepening her knowledge of plants and tracking, and developing her craft skills. “I feel I am on a lifelong journey of nature connection which is being enhanced by my work with children. There is a beauty and flow to working in and with nature, and I feel deeply grateful for the time spent with the children as part of the monthly mentoring programme.” Sarah is a mother, and works as a graphic designer as well as forest school facilitator. A keen musician, she plays bagpipes as well as Irish whistle, accordion and the kora which she learnt whilst traveling in West Africa. She loves to walk on the South Downs and spend time in her community. |
